A High Spectral Resolution Atlas of Comet 122P/de Vico
On 3 and 4 October, 1995, we obtained high spectral resolving power (R= λ/∆λ = 60, 000) observations of comet 122P/de Vico using the 2DCoude cross-dispersed echelle spectrograph on the 2.7-m telescope of McDonald Observatory. The spectra cover the wavelength range from 3830Å– 10192Å. The spectra from 3830–5776Å are continuous; from 5777–10192Å there are increasing interorder gaps. The comet was...
متن کاملA high resolution spectral atlas of brown dwarfs
We present a UVES/VLT high resolution atlas of three L dwarfs and one T dwarf system, spectral classes at which most of the objects are brown dwarfs. Our atlas covers the optical region from Hα up to the near infrared at 1 μm. We present spectral details of ultra-cool atmospheres at very high resolution (R ∼ 33 000) and compare the spectra to model calculations. Our comparison shows that molecu...
متن کاملATLAS vs. NextGen model atmospheres: a combined analysis of synthetic spectral energy distributions
We carried out a critical appraisal of the two theoretical models, Kurucz’ ATLAS9 and PHOENIX/NextGen, for stellar atmosphere synthesis. Our tests relied on the theoretical fit of spectral energy distributions (SED) for a sample of 334 target stars along the whole spectraltype sequence, from the classical optical catalogs of Gunn & Stryker (1983) and Jacoby et al. (1984). The best-fitting physi...
متن کاملExtragalactic science at very high spectral resolution
I briefly mention a few possible applications of very high spectral resolution spectroscopy with CRIRES to the study of nearby galaxies. This includes the fields of AGN, dynamically cold systems, super stellar and emission line clusters, and a more speculative program on the measurement of gravitational redshifts.
متن کاملHydrodynamical model atmospheres and 3D spectral synthesis
1 Radiation-hydrodynamics modeling – overview In this paper we discuss three issues in the context of three-dimensional (3D) hydrodynamical model atmospheres for late-type stars, related to spectral line shifts, radiative transfer in metal-poor 3D models, and the solar oxygen abundance. To establish the context we start by giving a brief overview about the model construction, taking the radiati...
